Darren has been working with me and my 7 year old Spaniel mix, Melinda. His approach combines really clear and effective training techniques with a genuine love of my dog and obvious respect for me, the dog’s owner! He makes very helpful corrections and notes our progress enthusiastically. Darren always gives goals and homework that are practical and easy to follow, and these are accompanied by a training “cheat sheet”, which is customized to me and Melinda. I use this sheet constantly during our practice time between sessions.
I speak for both Melinda and myself when I say we have enjoyed our training immensely, and we’re both making lots of progress!
I had the pleasure of working with Darren when our puppy Gracie was 8 weeks old. Normally, Darren doesn’t work with puppies that young but acquiesced when he saw my family’s commitment to training. His kind but firm approach to training fit our family perfectly. Darren involved the entire family in the process and stressed the importance of being consistent with the training. His clear instructions were easy to follow and very effective. I loved the fact that he left a “cheat sheet” that helped keep me on track with daily training and in the end, only benefited our pup.
At five months, Gracie is a lovely, sweet dog but training continues. Using Darren’s approach will ensure a well-behaved and social dog. I wholeheartedly recommend Darren and Evolve Dog Training!
We asked Darren to help us with our newly adopted rescue dog, Penny. Penny was a little over a year old and obviously had not had much in the way of training or socialization. Darren’s techniques of positive reinforcement have resulted in a well-behaved pet and owners who better understand a dog’s behavior and are armed with techniques to use going forward as Penny continues to evolve and bloom. Having these techniques to continue to apply on a consistent basis is priceless. We would highly recommend Darren for any of your dog-training needs.
I purchased our puppy when I was two months pregnant — although I’m sure part of that decision was an overload of motherly instinct kicking in, I did have a plan — I wanted our child to grow up with a dog. I knew it’d be tough, but after our son was born, I had NO IDEA how much work an untrained puppy and newborn would be. In that state of unknowing, I reached out to Darren. We worked with our Chesapeake Bay Retriever for a few months, starting with the basic commands, and then moving onto more challenges (which were fun!) at a pace suitable to her development.
Darren has a knack — both knowledgeable and instinctual — for assessing what a dog needs in order to be the best canine s/he may be. I am now able to walk with both our son and dog without fighting the leash for her attention and when we take her to a trail and she roams free, the recall is immediate. She is emerging into a confident and manageable dog and I’m grateful for Darren’s guidance in helping us to reach this point.
Harry and I just completed training with Darren and must confess ‘you can teach an ole dog new tricks’, in this case, the ole dog being ME! Our seven month old Havenese is well on his way to being the perfect pert for our family, thanks to Darren’s perfect approach to training humans on the best and most effective techniques for getting a god to behave in a manner that allows the humans to enjoy being around the dog. Knowing that we can reach out should we need a tune-up or should some behavior become problematic also gives us confidence.
